Nine Secret Protectors

More than 2,000 years ago, the Indian emperor Ashoka (until 232 BC) appointed nine of his confidants as guardians of the earth, whom he employed to secretly guide the fate of the earth in accordance with the teachings of Buddhism. They would always ensure that the Council of Nine remained complete and are said to exist to this day, possibly as immaterial beings.

Today, we also know the principle of the ninefold from the Enneagram. The ninefold is a symbol from the Sufi tradition. Gurdjieff mentioned and used it. Various teachers have made it prominent since the 1960s, especially in the USA. A psychological typology was associated with the Enneagram (and sometimes it was botched).

I have linked the Enneagram characters to the 9 guardians. I tend to follow Helen Palmer’s classification and characterization the most closely.
