Hollydeva stays at the Sanctuary, far away in the Silverland, where Master Finster and Kalima live with about twenty taciturn companions. She learns about meditation – and about who she might truly be. Meanwhile, a new abbot has to be elected on Linden Island. Hollydeva’s friend Aquaria is recruited by Nacharya Saphed, who may be Hollydeva’s greatest adversary. Saphed uses Aquaria to destroy the island of Avalonya, where Aquaria’s parents and some dissident masters are trying to build an alternative to Linden Island.

Hollydeva and Nacharya Peredur travel back to Eyrope. They want to bring the Wizardeurs under control, as they are the main supporters of the Alchymists, whose inventions – like genetic engineering – endanger Yrth. Piscio, on a quest to find his father, ends up rescuing Hollydeva from a prison cell in the Wizardeurs’ castle.

Hollydeva has to go to the headquarters of the Alchymists. In Gold City she joins the fight of a band of young activists. Together with Master Peredur, Astrello the Star Boy, and Miona, she is able to bring down the machine that controls everything.

Hollydeva returns to Linden Island, where the last stronghold of Alchymists and Wizardeurs has to be broken up. But Nacharya Saphed, who is behind everything that endangers Yrth, escapes to another realm, another world. Hollydeva follows him and has to understand her role in all the worlds – and search for the real power.

Hollydeva and her friends travel through planes of worlds, levels and dimensions. They have to rescue here and support there. They are searching for the center of all manifested worlds, the place where the true Empress sits and rules. Or is she just gazing into a mirror for all eternity?

After a long quest, Hollydeva returns to where she started. She has become a mystic; she knows about Universal Consciousness, about enlightenment, about the meaningless meaning of existence. And she knows that liberation is waiting for her and her friends on Linden Island.
